RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

YOUR RIGHTS IN RELATION TO SERVICES PROVIDED BY YOUR GP

You have the right to:-

  • Be registered with a GP if you are resident within the practice area.
  • Be offered a health check on joining a doctor's list for the first time.
  • Have appropriate drugs and medications prescribed.
  • Be referred to a consultant who is acceptable to you when your GP thinks it necessary, and to be referred for a second opinion if you and the GP agree this is desirable.
  • Have access to your health records. Subject to any limitations in the law and to know those working for the NHS are under a legal duty to keep the contents confidential
  • Choose whether or not to take part in medical research or medical student training.
  • Receive a copy of your doctor's practice leaflet, explaining the services which he or she provides.
  • Receive a full and prompt reply to any complaints you make about NHS services.
  • To be seen by a GP or any health care professionals at the surgery during surgery hours.
  • Be treated as temporary patient when away from usual residence.
  • To receive truthful reply to questions from GP unless information may cause further anxiety.

    HOW YOU CAN HELP US TO HELP YOU

  • By treating our staff with courtesy.
  • By giving the doctor all the relevant information about your condition and past medical history.
  • By letting us know when you move address or change telephone number as we need to keep our records up to date.
  • By keeping appointments or giving as much notice as possible if you have to cancel to enable others to benefit from it.
  • By using your appointment for one person only.
  • By giving 24 hours notice before collecting repeat prescriptions.

 

VIOLENCE AND AGGRESSION

Physical violence and verbal abuse are a growing concern. GP's, practice nurses and other staff have the right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused.

We ask that you treat your GP and practice staff properly - without violence or abuse. Violent and abusive patients will be reported to the police and struck off from the Practice immediately.

ZERO TOLERANCE is applied to violent and aggresive behaviour.
